Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is issued by SAYMitra Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (“we”, “us”, “our”), the operator of the Kisaan Mitra mobile app and web portal. It explains what personal data we collect from you, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”).

This is a separate document from our Terms & Conditions, which governs your use of the service itself. Where the two overlap, this Privacy Policy is authoritative on data-handling questions.

• Identity: full name, email address, mobile number
• Location: state, district, village/town, and optional GPS coordinates of your farm plots
• Farm data: plot size, soil type, irrigation source, crops grown, sowing dates
• Advisory interactions: questions you ask, responses you receive, feedback you submit
• Crop photos: field images you upload for pest/disease diagnosis
• Device data: app version, operating system, language preference, push-notification token

GPS location and crop photos are both optional — you can use a questionnaire instead of GPS for soil detection, and photo diagnosis is never required to use the rest of the app.

We use your data only to:

• Generate personalised crop advisory, pest alerts, and irrigation schedules
• Identify pests and diseases from photos you choose to upload
• Show relevant mandi prices, government schemes, and input costs for your area
• Send weather-risk or pest-outbreak alerts relevant to your location
• Improve the accuracy of our recommendations over time, using anonymised, aggregated patterns only
• Comply with applicable law

We do not sell your personal data to any third party, and we do not use your data for any purpose beyond what's listed above without asking you again first.

We use a small number of external processors to deliver the service. Each receives only the minimum data needed for its specific task:

• Anthropic (Claude) — receives your advisory questions to generate a response. Anthropic does not retain this data for its own model training.
• OpenAI (GPT-4o Vision) — receives crop photos you choose to upload, solely to identify pests/diseases in the image.
• OpenWeatherMap — receives GPS coordinates only, to return local weather data.
• Agmarknet / data.gov.in — receives your district name only, to return local mandi prices.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — receives a device push-notification token, to deliver alerts.

Cross-border transfer: Anthropic and OpenAI process data on servers located outside India. We only send them the specific text/image needed to answer your question or assess your photo — never your name, phone number, or exact location.

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, all personally identifiable information is permanently erased within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregated data (e.g. regional crop patterns) may be retained for research purposes after that.

As a Data Principal under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Erasure — request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Withdraw consent — at any time; this does not affect processing already carried out before withdrawal
• Grievance redressal — raise a complaint about how your data is handled

To exercise any of these rights, email support@kisan-mitra.in. We will respond within 30 days.

Per the DPDP Act, complaints about data handling can be directed to our Grievance Officer at support@kisan-mitra.in. (A named Grievance Officer will be published here before public launch.)

Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes and are never readable by us. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. The on-device app database is encrypted. Access to production databases is restricted to authorised personnel only, and we run regular automated backups so your data isn't at the mercy of a single point of failure.

Kisaan Mitra is intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has registered, contact support@kisan-mitra.in and we will delete the account promptly.

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be notified via the app or email at least 15 days before they take effect.

This policy is governed by the laws of India. Any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts in Hyderabad, Telangana.
